Like us in FB

When you think about social media,  one of the last things you look for  is to see your School Library.

After checking how is everybody doing and give some likes and comments, I started looking for School Libraries (OK, OK! I have to confess that is my assignment)

School Libraries now are using more social media (FB, Twitter, and blogspot) to be connected with their young (and not so young) patrons.
Well, times are changing and is not only that you go to school... now the school comes to you.
Our children and young adults  are more technology oriented, so, being in  the social networks is a way  that the library can be connected with the students and the parents.
But I noticed that there are more Junior and High Schools than Elementary schools, and I think is because teenagers and young adults are more active in the social media than the students of grammar schools.
Some libraries are more active than others, and most of them have almost no post since the school year is over in most of the school.

The advantages that I saw any person that has a social media account can access to the pages, post and information, at any time of their convenience. People can read and see what's going on in their libraries, the activities that students and teachers are doing. Some have suggestions for new books and printed materials, you can even see funny pictures and videos about library issues.

The disadvantage that I see is that you have to be careful with the nature and quality of the postings, some library were more focus in the school activities (field trips, carnivals, games) than the library and literacy activities, which I consider is the main purpose of the Library Page.

ps. I was curious and decided to look for Biblioteca Escolar (School Library in Spanish) and I was delighted to see libraries from Mexico, Colombia, Spain and even Brazil!!!

I can only say that the WWW is amazing!!!
